Hive Mind Help! Finding a Lost Fic

I've been all over the net - well, as far as my old, addle-pated brain can take me - in a hunt for a fic I remember reading oh so long ago. Hive mind, you are my only hope!

Eons ago, someone wrote a fic that took off after Heroes to examine how a real-world military of that era would have responded to Sam's alleged desertion of her post during the Jaffa firefight and the "inappropriate relationship" between Sam and Jack that may have caused it. I am not arguing the rightness or wrongness of the fic or the assumptions, but remember that the storytelling was good and the situation interesting.

I believe the writer went on to write a nonfictional essay on the topic as well, but I may be confusing two different authors at this point.

More details from the fic: There was a huge trial for Sam and Jack. Daniel and Teal'c visited Jack in prison - Teal'c very protective towards Daniel. And Jack's "eyes were opened" about his feelings for Daniel.

I sure hope this is ringing some bells for someone here. I'd love to revisit this fic to see if my memory of the story is accurate. I know, slash fic is not my thing, but my ability to hand-wave the romance in any fic is ninja, believe me.

Please, please, if you know this fic, can you point me to it? Many huge virtual hugs and awkward pats on the back!

I remember the fic and I know I didn't read it on any of the big archives. It may have been on an author's website. I didn't finish it because it was so incredibly negative in its portrayal of Sam, but it was certainly an interesting premise.

I'm sorry I can't remember more details about where it was, but it was much discussed at the time for sure.

My memory of more details is hazy at best! I've just found a much lauded fic by a famous SG1 writer that I had to put down less than a 10th of the way through because of horrible characterization, so I hear you. Thanks for your reply!

Consequences by Fabrisse, it's on AO3, it's not the aftereffects of Heroes but Scorched Earth but has a lot of the criteria you listed.

There is also Essay on Scorched Earth that may be the one you're thinking about.

I agree, that sounds more like Consequences by Fabrisse, than anything else.

I am definitely curious, thankyou! I was gobbling up Sg1 fic so fast back then that stories blended together in my fron. Thankfully, I have great fan-friends like you all of you to point me in the right direction!

YAY, you found it! And I really didn't read it :D I am almost sure if I had I might have remembered... maybe, probably... :p...then again, maybe not. Like you I gobbled them down and they tend to blend after all this time, lol
